If you ever find yourself in a bit of a pickle because you can’t change any Kaspersky settings because you have forgotten the admin password that you set upon installation. Then follow these steps to remove the password.
Firstly you will need to boot you PC into safe mode. To do this press the F8 key when you PC is starting up. (After BIOS screen but before your windows loading screen).
You will then need to log back in the PC with a administrator account.
Then you need to navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0
You then need to rename the file avp.exe (into temp.exe for example)
Restart your computer in the normal mode.
Run the renamed file
Open the main application window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
Go to the Service tab
Go to the Settings section
In the Protection section disable the options Enable Self-Defense and Enable password protection.
Exit Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 (right-click the Kaspersky icon and in the menu select Exit)
Go to the setup folder of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
Give the avp.exe file its initial name back
Start Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
Open the main window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
Go to Settings > Service
In the right part of the window enable Enable Self-Defense and Enable password protection
In the Self-defense section click the Settings button
Enter a new password
Click Ok to close each window
